I felt it fitting that I follow up from my previous review with the companion piece that followed This Is Why.
I appreciate that this album doesn't limit itself to being a traditional remix album as I think the covers and reimagining of some songs have great merit and allows the collaborating artists more freedoms in how their songs are changed.
Although I don't quite enjoy this album as much, I appreciate what the other artists add to each song and celebrate these kinds of projects uplifting lesser known artists directly to an audience that will appreciate their sound.
Favorite Songs:
1. Figure 8 (Re: Bartees Strange)
Without a doubt, this is my favorite song on this project. I love how the first part of the song is remixed to sound more atherial and creates tension similar to that in a horror or thriller. The fear of losing control feels more horrifying than that of panicked which comes across in the original.
The second part is where the instamental becomes stripped back and Strange's vocals almost give the feeling of regret or sadness. It almost feels as if the "episode" being described at the start and original is over now and the protagonist is left to recover.
2. Running Out Of Time (Re: Zane Lowe)
I wanna say something profound but I just love the vibes of this song. This reimagining only really uses limited vocals from the original to do its own thing. Now excuse me while I do the Kitty Pryde and Rouge white girl dance.
3. Sanity (demo)
I'm so grateful that this song got the light of day as it works so well in the This Is Why era (both sonically and thematically) and I feel it works very well as a sister song to Figure 8 to tell as story about dwelling on internal flaws to accepting them to function more productively (Figure 8 starting and Sanity finishing this perceived arc).
